bundle up

the bigger the scarf the better. especially now that it's getting colder out. these lovely cowl necks, scarfs, hats, and other accessories are from yarn over movement. Everything is hand knit using blended lamb's wool so you can put one on in the morning and wear it all day without an itch.

it's a date

i think i've made my 2010 calendar choice and just signed up to be notified when the new cats let nothing darken their roar edition is released. i love the strange phrases and the large scale prints. as much as i like surprises, i always look at my birthday month first. "nothing like little vera to make things better." during elementary school i took organ lessons for a few years from a sweet older woman named vera. she always wore a big curly brown wig, gave me gold stars and hershey's kisses, and poured me a tall glass of ensure (chocolate or vanilla) after each lesson as my "special treat."

bliss

ben and i had our two year wedding anniversary two weeks ago today (i meant to post this to the date, but time got away from me). i don't remember much from that day, with all of my nerves and excitement, but i do remember feeling overwhelmed with happiness, for marrying the person i love most, and finally getting to kiss him for the first time as my husband.

it's been one of those months. we attended two weddings in two different states, celebrated our own anniversary, and moved in to our very first home. we're settling in amidst the boxes, but reality hasn't set in... i feel like we're squatters not owners.

how do you feel?

words mean different things to different people. they make you feel better or they make you feel worse. memories of broken hearts and forgotten secrets. things you want to forget and others you hope to remember forever. mia nolting is an artist an illustrator. her detailed and fragmented drawings and typography are beautiful reminders.

tiny specimens

i remember spending summers on the north shore of lake superior combing the beaches for hours with my grandma looking for agates, thomsonite, and bits of colored quartz. we would sit on the shore with our bare feet digging into the smooth dark pebbled sand looking for any hint of color that might have washed up on shore.

carly waito has a new series of oil paintings that look almost like photographs of the minerals she's recreating. by using a macro lens carly is able to see every detail of the grey smoky quarts, purple amethyst, red rhodochrisite, and brown barite shown above. The artist is half of the partnership coe and waito, which is sadly no longer working on their ceramic collection. just because they've taken a break from sculpting and casting their signature pieces doesn't mean that these talented ladies aren't still continuing to produce beautiful work.

solid investment

what could be a better way to accessorize during the recession than to wear those gold nuggets you had melted down around your neck. it's fashion meets function. if you're nugget-less try one of laura lombardi beautiful gold-dipped quarts necklaces. her jewelry simply sparkles with an edgy romantic twist.
