made in italy

j. crew’s design team visited their shoe manufacturers in castelfranco di sotto, italy, to watch their creations come to life. the footage was recently posted on their web site, showing the start to finish on how their fabulous footwear is made. two of my favorite pairs for spring are from their quorra line—these beautiful cutout leather oxfords and ballet flats.

  1. My favorite part of Mr. Rogers when I was a kid was when he would go to the factories to see how things were made. The crayon factory was amazing! This reminds me of that. What a beautiful craft!

  2. This is great! I've been seeing more and more artist and craftsman post videos of how they create things. I find it so fascinating.

  3. This link made my day! I just spent a semester in Florence, and while there I had a shoemaking class. I've heard everything and anything about the process for a corporate scale, but never actually got to see what happens behind the scenes! From the one factory tour we took, I can tell you that that really is the way they do things.
